Panasonic TH 42PX60U 42 Inch Plasma HDTV Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42-Inch Plasma HDTV Featuring Panasonic’s 9th generation gas-plasma screen, the 42-inch TH-42PX60U features a width-to-height 16:9 aspect ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. Its maximum of 29 billion colors and over 3,000 shades of gradation provide exceptionally fine detail for outstanding HDTV reproduction. The set’s built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (480p/720p/1080i) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. It also includes a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot, enabling you to take an SD card directly from a digital still camera or camcorder and insert it directly into the TV for quick and colorful photo slideshows.

A plasma screen renders vivid colors like you’ve never seen before (as in, up to 29 billion in this case), extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor’s slim profile–the TH-42PX60U is a mere 3.7 inches deep, one of the slimmest plasmas around–perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

The TH-42PX60U features a 1024 x 768-pixel resolution and an amazing contrast ratio of 10000:1. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV’s ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Other features include V-Chip parental controls, on/off sleep timers, closed-caption decoding, aspect ratio control, and video input labeling.

The TV’s internal stereo speakers are powered by 10 watts per channel (for 20 watts of total power). It features the following connection options:

  • Component (Y/Pb/Pr): 2 inputs (with 2 audio inputs)
  • HDMI: 2 inputs
  • Composite (RCA audio/video): 3 inputs (1 on the front), 1 output
  • S-Video: 3 inputs (1 on the front)

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any AV source with an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio–all using a single cable.

If a component doesn’t have an HDMI connection, you’ll also get great picture reproduction using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Component video output is available only for DVD playback.

Customer Review: red light flashes 11 times
Had a good picture while it lasted. If I can get the set to turn on, it stays on for about 45 min. then pop! no picture or sound and the little red light flashes 11 times, pauses, and flashes 11 more times. NOT what I expected from a Panasonic product. From what I’ve read, this is a problem others have experienced with this tv an will cost you $600 or more to be fixed. My solution is to stay away from this Manufacturer and today I purchased a Sony 46″ LCD for $950 which includes tax and shipping. Don’t be a fool and throw away your $$$$ like I did. I paid $2300 three years ago. You won’t pay as much today but do you want to take the chance????

High-definition TVs (HDTVs) display a maximum of either 1,080 interlaced lines or 720 progressively scanned lines for the sharpest possible image.

set-top boxes and PCs. There’s also a standard RGB computer input. A built-in analog tuner, a pedestal stand, and a generous array of audio/video connections make setup a snap. Further, the set’s widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (not included).

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you’ve never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor’s slim profile–the HPN5039 is an astoundingly slim 3.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (the set includes a convenient pedestal stand, pictured). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

Additional inputs include one HD component-video input (480p/720p/1080i) and one SD component-video input (480i) as well as one each S-video, composite-video, and RF. Samsung’s proprietary video-enhancement technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe), performs 3D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.

The also set houses a 10-watts-per-channel audio amplifier for use with optional speakers, such as those in your existing stereo or home theater, or Samsung’s matching PSN5030 speakers. Other optional accessories include a wall-mount kit (WMN4230) and a pneumatic floor stand (FS500).

The set’s NTSC two-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of two TV programs, and a fanless cooling system ensures quiet operation.

More about DNIe
Digital Natural Image engine(DNIe) that could take a signal from any kind of source-not just conventional or high-definition digital broadcasting, but even DVD, Camcorder, PC and games-and turn it into a stunning picture on any kind of screen. The input signal passes through a series of four advanced processes that form the core of the DNIe technology.

The first of these processes, the Motion Optimizer, is responsible for noise reduction. the visual data are automatically broken down into signal and noise and analyzed through a combined spatial/temporal process. DNIe‘s noise reduction technology permits a startling level of sharpness even in minute details and rapidly changing scenes. Samsung HPN5039 50 Inch HDTV Ready Flat Panel Plasma TV Unlike conventional noise reduction methods, the Motion Optimizer combines a motion adaptive temporal filter, which detects and reduces noise in the temporal space between successive frames, with spatial noise reduction applied to the two-dimensional image space.

After passing through the Motion Optimizer, the visual signal is sent to the Contrast Enhancer. This process automatically adjusts contrast and brightness to natural levels, producing an extraordinarily rich and vivid picture. In scenes of motion or rapid change,a separate contrast value should ideally be set for each visual signal, but this presents great technological difficulties. DNIe’s Contrast Enhancer process has overcome these difficulties by applying over 1 million criteria for contrast and automatically determining the optimum contrast level for any kind of visual data. The Contrast Enhancer can also analyze up to 70,000 local images within a frame to preserve contrast in the smallest details without affecting overall color or brightness.

The next step in the signal’s journey from input to high-quality output is the Detail Enhancer. DNIe’s Detail Enhancer uses its own specially developed technology to dramatically improve sharpness just where it matters. The slightly unnatural appearance that results from conventional uniform detail enhancement is re-detected and re-adjusted to produce a strikingly sharp and convincing image. Conventional detail enhancement is based on the artificial amplification of the input signal, but this inevitably produces small areas of noise boost-up and flicker.

The final process undergone by the input signal is the Color Optimizer. For each scene, the Color Optimizer analyzes the hues of the input signal to determine and preserve the overall level of brightness. The colors are adjusted and improved, without unnatural intensification, to give vivid tones corresponding to the living shades of nature. By calculating the color saturation of red, green, and blue in each scene, the colors are optimized to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural.

stay away from amazon, filled with rippers offering low cost for products and who gets screwd, you do and amazon isn’t doing anything about it, also don’t trust this site http://www.escrowd.com it is a fake site made up to take your money, do not trust it as it isn’t listed with BBB as a business in Paris France
Customer Review: NO SERVICE
Don’t expect any service from a third rated company.
If you are buying a big ticket item or an expensive item, don’t go with Samsung.
They will not help you when it breaks down even when it’s under the warranty.
They will delay it until the warranty is over.

Customer Review: Magnificent!
Panasonic has cured the only issue with this professional model, and that was the shortage of HDMI ports….the 10UK model had one (1), this model has two (2), and the new HDMI add-on modules have 2 ports now so you can easily upgrade this unit to 4 HDMI ports which is more than most people will ever need…I think!
